About

Alan Vetter from NYC
My name is Alan Vetter and I ran away from New York City back in 1990. I live in Taos NM and am currently a full time front man for a band I founded called "Vanilla Pop.

That portion of my life also affords me the luxury of having a second persona. Although I go shopping and sit on the loo as Alan Vetter, "Al Dente" is the name I go by when performing, and let me tell you... I highly recommend adding another person to your resume if you can swing it.

It affords you another voice, a getaway car and a dark alley in which to hide when you need. Remember how you dressed up as a cowboy or a ballerina or a mad scientist as a kid? Well I get to do that every weekend and it is still as much fun as it was when I put on my first pair of polyester Leopard skin pants 15 years ago.

The photo above is what I look like in the morning...

And this is what I look like in the eve....

I'm still debating whether to adopt Mr. Dente as my full time writing voice. In the meantime I'm just toying around with both fellows to see how it plays out. I'll keep you all posted. (Apparently I think my right side to be my best as I just realized that pretty much every photograph of me is from that side.

I've always been on the fence regarding "Artist Statements" or "About" pages. I'm curious if anyone is really interested in the backstage part of a person's creative life. Does anyone really care where a painter went to school if the painting moves them? Do you care what motivates me to write? The words are the proof. Either you like or you no like.

Other Stuff
I still feel that "The Sound Of Music" is the greatest movie ever made and have yet to get over my crush for "Jan" on the Brady Bunch. (4th Season).

I am addicted to digging holes, growing vegetables and moving rocks around my yard and make sure to spend at least one hour cooking dinner every night.

Life's too short to eat bad food, and eating bad food makes it even shorter.

The rest you can find out by reading these essays. If you get bored here, click a link to the "Dear Vanilla Pop" blog which I started just a few weeks ago. It's a collection of fictitious letters to Al Dente in the vein of "Dear Abbey". Actually it's more like "Ask A Mexican" and  I'm hoping to eventually get it picked up by a local rag.

Check back here once in awhile for new fluff, follow me, or sign up, or leave, or I don't care what you do as long as you are enjoying yourself without doing so at the expense of others.
That bugs me to no end. (And people who drive under the speed limit. I got places to go.)

Ciao Bella!
Alan Vetter
